  Issue No. 20/October 2024 ­ Hurricane Milton as it approaches Florida; Photo Courtesy of NOAA   The Reality of Hurricanes This past month has been a real challenge for Florida residents and those of us living along the Loop are no exception.  Even though we were spared the brunt of Hurricane Helene, we were not so lucky in escaping major damage from Hurricane Milton - a behemoth storm which brought 14 plus inches of rain in a 24-hour period.  This huge amount of rain, coupled with a full moon and king tides, has led to a delay in the floodwaters receding, and standing water is still a problem along the Loop and in our greater community as a whole.   Many of us are dismayed that there seems to be a correlation between areas where development has replaced wetlands - and subsequent flooding results.  As we experience this flooding from Hurricane Milton on Old Dixie Highway  and the ongoing dune erosion along A1A (resulting in the installation of secant seawalls to
