Join Us on September 21st! |
| Penguins on our coast? No, not yet(!) but we are proud to once again be participating in an International Day dedicated to cleaning up coastlines all over the world. As stewards of a Scenic Byway, part of our mission is to engage and educate the public about ways to care and maintain the wild areas along the Loop. With that in mind, we will be a part of the County-wide, International Coastal Clean-Up on Saturday, September 21st. This initiative is a wonderful way to help keep our river and ocean coastlines free from litter, discarded household items and plastics. Please volunteer with us as we strive to keep our waterways safe, clean and thriving. The OSLT team is responsible for clean up in the High Bridge/Smith Creek area so see the details below to sign up! |

| Recognizing Our New Sponsors |

|
Thanks in large part to the dedication of Board member Gayle Woodley, two new sponsors recently contributed to the OSLT in support of our administrative and community outreach programs. We'd like to recognize Dennis Casey with Casey Wealth Advisors/Raymond James and Beachside Resale, a new retail business located along the Loop. We greatly appreciate your support as we advocate, protect and educate others about our beautiful scenic highway! These new sponsors join Lagerheads Bar and Grill which joined as an OSLT sponsor earlier this summer. Additionally, we'd also like to thank Love Whole Foods and Cafe for sponsoring us in their July Bring Your Own Bag program and raffle. Your generous donation will be very helpful in the coming months! If you or your business are interested in becoming a sponsor of the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail please CLICK HERE |

| Florida State Parks in Danger |
| | You may have heard by now that the Florida Legislature is proposing the addition of pickle ball courts, golf courses and large hotel-like lodges in nine of our State Parks - most notably for us is Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine.. Being promoted under the heading of the State's Department of Environmental Protection, this development would threaten the habitats of vulnerable native animals and plants, and would quite simply destroy the very nature so many of us want to experience when we visit one of these State Parks. Florida's State Park system is nationally recognized as being one of the best in the Country. Why would this even be proposed in a time when more and more of our wild spaces and wetlands have been lost to development? Luckily the public meetings, which originally were scheduled at only a week's notice, will now be rescheduled to the 2nd week of September to accommodate more people. More info about the proposed development from the Florida Rambler can be found HERE We must stay vigilant and the OSLT suggests that you let your voice be known if you don't want to see our natural treasures destroyed for recreational and lodging facilities that already exist in our developed communities.
