The Loop in Transition

Take a drive along the Loop and it seems that everywhere you look, work is being done to repair the roadway. Secant seawalls are being installed along A1A to protect it from storms and other construction is underway to make the road safer for both motorists and pedestrians. Another improvement slated for A1A is a planned River to Sea Loop system linking inland areas with the beach through dedicated bike paths. These short-term inconveniences will hopefully have long-term benefits and if anything, this disruption has made many of us more appreciative of how unique our Scenic Loop is. With spring in full swing, now would be the perfect time to attend one of the many ReGrow the Loop programs listed below. They are designed to help all of us implement small and simple changes that can enhance the natural beauty, tree canopy and wildlife along this special section of "Old Florida."

Your Yard Matters

Did you know that more than half of North American birds species are in decline? Since 1970 more than 1 in 4 song birds have died from factors including habitat loss and pesticide use. On March 8th, Halifax River Audubon hosted a workshop that emphasized the importance of adding native Florida habitat areas to your yard to support birds and other wildlife. Simple solutions were offered and a sold out crowd of more than 70 people attended - yay!

Birds on the Beach

It was a beautiful cool morning on March 22nd when a group of bird enthusiasts met for a guided tour presented by Joan Tague, the President of Halifax River Audubon. Starting at the beach and hiking through wooded areas down to the river, more than 34 species of birds were identified!

Looking for Volunteers

The Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail is seeking interested volunteers to help run our booth at various community events. Some of these include Thursdays at the Ormond Beach Farmer's Market at City Hall, Earth Day at the Environmental Discovery Center and other fun events. Schedules are flexible and you can stay for just a little while - or for the entire event - it's up to you! Our most present need is for 2-3 volunteers who can assist us during the Earth Day celebration in April. We would like to have a booth set up and are also co-sponsoring a tree giveaway so if you're interested please email us at: ormondscenicloop@gmail,com

Removing Litter from the Loop

The CleanUp Crew is planning a clean up along Old Dixie Hwy to remove debris from Bike Week and other spring events. There will also be a second cleanup along Highbridge Road after the road has been paved. The date is TBD.
