ReGrow Steps into Spring!
ReGrow the Loop programs hit their stride in the next month with a whole host of events and presentations designed to inform and enlighten. First up is a wonderful Tree-ID Walk through Bulow Creek State Park with our Environmental Committee Co-chair, Laura Ureta (in photo above). Laura is the Arborist for the City of Ormond Beach and an ISA Certified Arborist who brings a wealth of knowledge about our native environment. Learn how to identify our area's most common trees - and the easiest ways to tell them apart. To help with your own identification, participants will be gifted a book to help them differentiate between the many trees in Florida.

Take a leisurely morning walk on the sand in Ormond Beach with members of Halifax River Audubon. Learn about the birds that chase the waves, squabble, loaf and cruise along our shore in Volusia County. Gulls, terns, plovers, sandpipers and more visit the beaches every day. Spotting scopes will be on hand for up-close views of the birds. Check the weather and be prepared for that day’s beach conditions. Bring binoculars if available.
The parking lot at this location requires a $20.00 fee. A Volusia County parking permit is available for residents free of charge, Apply here for a permit if you have not already registered your license plate: https://www.parkvolusia.org/
Non-residents can also apply if they plan on parking at the beach lots often. Presented by Joan Tague, President of the Halifax River Audubon Chapter

OSLT Participates in Bike Week
Volunteers Alicia Oktar and Karen Pillar (above) manned the OSLT table at the Iron Horse Saloon during the last weekend of Bike Week. Other volunteers, Jody Gibian-Miles, Elaine Fortier and Laura and Jasmarie Cooper, also stopped by to lend a hand at the table. The OSLT received almost $200 in donations - including one generous biker who gave Jody a crisp $100 bill! We really enjoyed being a part of this iconic event and
appreciated the opportunity to share information with the bikers - one of the Loop's biggest group of fans!

Did you notice that the trailhead parking area along Walter Boardman was recently regraded? Many of us who hike through this area of Bulow Creek State Park were aware of the unsafe conditions as the asphalt had been crumbling along the road edges, causing a huge drop off into the parking area. Thank you to the Volusia County Roads and Bridges department for responding to our concerns and regrading this section of the roadway; it's now a smooth transition from the road to sanded lot!

Years of re-patching the sides of the road eventually led to crumbling asphalt and a very uneven transition from road to lot.

The regrading allows vehicles
to easily pull off the roadway.
