A City and County! The final spring ReGrow the Loop 2026 program was held on May 16th and it was an excellent presentation by Amber Carson on Herbicides and Their Impact on Trees in the Landscape. Other recent, high-quality April and May programs included: Land Conservation Update/Halifax River Projects presented by Suzanne Scheiber and Jessy Wayles; Butterflies and Their Host Plants presented by Katie Tripp, Ph.D. and Identifying and Removing Invasive Plants presented by Laura Ureta. We are grateful to all twelve of the ReGrow the Loop presenters - as well as the leaders of the two walks that were included in our spring schedule. We are also especially thankful that so many people attended these informative events.
Our list of ReGrow the Loop 2026 Presenters included: Jennifer Winters, Protected Species Activity Manager and other specialists from Volusia County Protected Species; Katie Tripp, Ph.D, Natural Beauty Native Florida Landscapes; Suzanne Scheiber, Dream Green Volusia; Jessy Wayles, Community Engagement Coordinator, Indian River Lagoon Council; Laura Ureta, Arborist, City of Ormond Beach; Bryce Merritt, Environmental Specialist, Florida Div. of Agricultural Environmental Services; Joan Tague, President, Halifax River Audubon Society and Amber Carson, arborist, and co-owner of Action Tree Care.

ReGrow the Loop is now part of the ReGrow Volusia initiative, and we could not have had such successful programming without the support of Volusia County and the City of Ormond Beach. Their valuable employees provided promotional materials and artistic input from beginning to end, helping us to reach many people who otherwise would not have known about RGTL. The one-page Program schedule created for us by Volusia County‘s Paul Radetsky, was distributed at all our OSLT events and was a key part of our spring promotion. Pauline Dulang, Ormond Beach Information Officer, created a social media ad for every one of our programs this year. Thank you so much! You are so appreciated.
Two venues really stand out for helping to make these events happen for us: the Ormond Beach Regional Public Library and the Ormond Beach Environmental Discovery Center (EDC). Thank you to their representatives who went above and beyond to assure our programs were a success. We really appreciate you Kathryn Pase, Kelley Balao, Ray Leonard and Sarah Garcia.
This year the City of Ormond Beach and OSLT presented the 2026 Earth Day Tree Giveaway at the EDC. It was wonderful to have this opportunity to participate with them on this community event. Special thanks to Volusia County who partnered with the OSLT, donating 250 trees and to Volusia's Anna Copeland, who worked closely with us and the Flowing Well Tree Farm to present an excellent assortment of native trees. This year we gave away 400 native trees to residents of Ormond Beach and Volusia County!
GOOD NEWS! ReGrow the Loop 2026 will continue with a fall schedule of programs and walks - and we will publicize the schedule as soon as it is finalized. Thank you again to all who have been a part of this unique, County-wide initiative!

Celtic Festival: A Fun Outreach Event
It was a great time for all at the Celtic Festival held on the grounds of Ormond Beach's Casements/Rockefeller Park on April 18th and 19th. We had a lot of fun in the KIDSZONE sharing our love of the Loop and entertaining more than 200 children at our fishing and ring toss games. The event was a huge success as we raised funds to support our mission and also added almost 100 people to our mailing list, including nearly 40 potential new volunteers! Local businesses also supported the Loop as Tony Puglia of Backwater Provisions, Co. became a sponsor and the owners of Robbie O'Connell's Pub in Daytona Beach gave a generous donation.
We'd like to give a BIG THANK YOU to all of the wonderful volunteers who donated their time and energy during the Festival: Marianne Burley, Melissa Burns, Jasmarie Cooper, Dorothy Davis, Ron Fell, Meredeth Konkel, Krystalya Marie, Alicia Oktar, Karen and Alan Pillar, Mary Crouch Tierney, Laura Ureta and Amber Winquist.

Road Work from Roberta Road to Flagler Line
| |
The Florida Department of Transportation recently shared information regarding the continued roadwork along A1A north of Granada Boulevard. This project intends to resurface the segment of A1A from north of Roberta Road to the Flagler County line. The project will also add pedestrian crosswalks and lower the posted speed limit where feasible to enhance safety. Three new crosswalks equipped with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) are planned at Holland Road, Seabreeze Drive and Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park. The RRFBs flash when activated to alert drivers someone intends to cross A1A.
Fifteen other crosswalks are planned for: Sunset Boulevard; Kathy Drive, Ocean Breeze Circle, Sunrise Avenue, Wisteria Drive, San Jose Drive, Sunny Beach Drive, Imperial Heights Drive; Ocean Grove Drive; Marlin Drive; Sand Dollar Drive; Ocean Aire Terrace; between Seabridge Drive and Sea Oats Terrace; Bass Drive, and Coquina Key Drive.
Median islands at Imperial Heights Drive and Sand Dollar Drive will also be added. The medians will not block side streets. Other proposed safety improvements include a 10-foot-wide shared-use path with curb and gutter on the southbound side of A1A from north of Roberta Road to south of North Peninsula State Park. The construction start is being pushed back a few months to accommodate completion of the buried seawall along S.R. A1A.

Specifics about the project can be found in a flyer outlining the scope of the work for residents who may be impacted by the construction.

From the Volusia Turtle Patrol
Turtle Nesting Season officially began on Friday, May 1st. Volusia County urges beachgoers and residents to keep the beach "clean, dark and flat" during this tenuous time for sea turtles. All of us who live or visit the beaches along the Loop can do our part to protect these special sea creatures.
Keep it dark Do not use lights, flashlights or camera flashes on the beach at night. Businesses and homeowners residing along the beach should follow the County's strict lighting restrictions during the season.
Remove all belongings Take beach chairs, coolers etc. with you when you leave and dispose of trash in the proper receptacles.
Fill in holes Knock down sand castles and fill in holes before leaving the beach. These depressions can hinder the ability of adult turtles to lay eggs and can also trap hatchlings and keep them from reaching the ocean.
Stay alert while boating Sea turtles forage and breathe near the surface; boat and propeller injuries are life-threatening so be cautious.
